Camping Application

Scout Unit and Youth Group Camping

Why camp with us?

Camping at the Historic Daniel Lady Farm is the perfect way to experience history firsthand. Not only are there ample experiences to be had in town, but there are often reenactors marching across a field or cavalry riding through the woods. In addition to allowing limited camping during Event Weekends, we will have historians on the property most weekends who are eager to interact with the youth as much or as little as each group would like. The Daniel Lady Farm is a working farm staffed by Farm workers and volunteers. We always need willing hands. The Farm is a historic site, so work on the farm can be used as a service project and/or conservation work. We also qualify for the Historic Trails Award Program through the BSA.

Costs

  • Camping - $15 per person, per night (adults and children)
  • Deposit - $50 deposit to secure camping reservation (credited toward final total)
  • Cancellations - deposits refundable if cancellations are made 30 days in advance of your arrival. Cancellations made after this are not refundable.
  • Rescheduling - reservation dates may be rescheduled up to 14 days prior to arrival at no additional cost.

What's Included

  • Camp fire wood
  • Potable water
  • Portable toilet
  • Guided tour of the Barn and House (in season)
  • Eagle Scout and service projects are available.

Safety

  • Boy Scout units are required to have a certificate of insurance from BSA Council. Girl Scouts and other organized youth groups must have comparable insurance.
  • Onsite Daniel Lady Farm staff and volunteers have youth protection clearances required by BSA and Pennsylvania State Law.
  • All medical emergencies or police matters dial 911 and tell them 1008 Hanover Street, Gettysburg PA 17325  – The Daniel Lady Farm. Once the authorities are called, please call the Camping Coordinator so they can also react to the incident.

Rules

  •  Vehicles are permitted in the campsite areas for set up and tear down purposes. You will be able to park your vehicles near your camps. We ask that you use extreme caution when driving on the property as there are usually multiple units camping. BE SAFE!
  • ABSOLUTELY NO CAMPERS are permitted inside the Daniel Lady Farm buildings without a staff member.  You will be camping on the same ground that soldiers marched across and died on. This is hallowed ground, and we ask that you treat it as such. Emergency shelter information will be provided to the Camp Leader at arrival
  • ABSOLUTELY NO CAMPERS are permitted to fish, swim, or otherwise enter the pond.
  • All guests acknowledge that animals are unpredictable and assume liability for involvement with them. Please do not feed any farm animal without staff permission.
  • Campfires are allowed on top of the ground only and must always be attended by an adult. NO DIGGING OF FIRE PITS.
  • We are on a well water system. Please do not allow the water to run at the spigot while washing dishes or doing personal hygiene. Always run water into a bowl or container and turn the spigot off.
  • Camp sites must be policed upon completion of the camping period, returning firewood to stacked area and trash cleaned up and placed in the dumpster.

Reenactor Camping

Civil War Reenactment Units may camp on the farm at group rates. Units that interact with visitors as part of the GBPA Living History Program may have fees waived with prior arrangement.

We are especially open to persons doing medical, embalming, Sanitary Commission, cooking, and musical presentations. Units may consider a “School of the Soldier” weekend.

The only requirement is presenting a living history and mingling with farm visitors at times during the weekend.
